Catch Up with Lisa

This week we are catching up with gorgeous community ambassador Lisa. Lisa is a wife, mum, breast cancer survivour and avid supporter of Pink Hope. See what she has been up to!

Lisa was chosen as a Member of the Month in 2009, just after Pink Hope started. Lisa was one of the first ambassadors to jump on board and she is a valued contributor, support buddy and friend :)

Give us an update of what has been happening in your life since you became a member of Pink Hope?
I have been through my prophylactic mastectomy surgery and had a breast reconstruction with expanders and implants. I continue to see my team of medical specialists frequently and I am currently 3 and a half years past my breast cancer diagnosis, fit and healthy.

I am primary teaching part-time, which I love, and I am enjoying some time at home with my 4 year old son before he is off at primary school. As well as being an ambassador for Pink Hope, I also am involved in the NBCF Speakers Bureau and I am a Cancer Council Victoria - Cancer Connect volunteer.

Have you had surgery and if so, how have you recovered from your surgery?
I have recovered well physically from the surgery as I have no pain or discomfort. I am waiting to have a review with my Plastic surgeon in July about my recovery, as there are concerns that the skin affected by radiotherapy may be too thin. I am worried my reconstruction may need to be deconstructed, and redone using the lat dorsi reconstruction method.

Do you have any words of wisdom to give to other members of Pink Hope and other young women who are at high risk?
I would advise all young women at risk to investigate their options very thoroughly and seek many medical opinions before having surgery. Do not rush your decision until you are 100% comfortable with your choice. Also, it is  important to realise that if you do have breast cancer, reconstruction methods may be limited if you require radiotherapy and hormone replacement therapy may not be an option after ovary removal.

What has becoming a member of Pink Hope meant to you?
It has given me amazing support and valued friendships with other young women who understand what it means to be at high risk of breast and ovarian cancer, and makes me feel less alone in my own journey.

I asked Lisa what PANDORA gifts she has received from Pink Hope and how she has added to the collection and what it means to her?
My PANDORA charms symbolise the love and support I have from family, friends and Pink Hope. They remind me daily of the wonderful people in my life. Charms received: A guardian angel, butterflies and pink ribbon

Here is a picture of Lisa's PANDORA bracelet and how she is creating Unforgettable moments with the gifts from Pink Hope.
