Catch up with Sali
This week we are catching up with community ambassador Sali. I met Sali many years ago when Pink Hope was just an aspiration of mine. I truly admire Sali for being such an incredible, strong, courageous and kind ambassador. Sali is a breast cancer survivour and remarkable young woman and mum!
Have you been “Member of the Month” for Pink Hope?
If so,when? July 2009
Give us an update of what has been happening in your life since you became a member of Pink Hope?
A lot has happened since I last gave an update. I moved to Sydney from Melbourne to be closer to family, I fell in love with an amazing man, Rami whom I know live and share my life with, I started my own business ‘MazeInc’ and above all of that I am happier and healthier than I have ever been.
Have you had surgery and if so, how have you recovered from your surgery?
I have since had a double bilateral surgery – this was a decision that I had pushed for as I wanted peace of mind. It took about 6 months to complete recover and I am scheduled to have my nipple reconstruction in October. The pink hope forums really helped me get through the period of ‘what ifs’ during the pre and post of the surgery. The support and guidance of other women was a godsend to keeping level headed and strong minded.
Do you have any words of wisdom to give to other members of Pink Hope and other young women who are at high risk?
Be diligent in knowing your body. Take time to understand your moods, your body changes and trust your instinct. I was advised by doctors not to have a double mastectomy but I pushed for it as I just didn’t feel 100% right – thankfully by trusting myself I had the surgery which uncovered 2 more tumours. I believe that trusting and understanding my body saved my life.
What has becoming a member of Pink Hope meant to you?
It really is an honour to be recognised and rewarded to fighting a battle you never asked for. It’s given me more positive perspective on a difficult journey.
Have you received a Pandora gift from Pink Hope?
Yes!
If so, what did you receive? Pandora bracelet + book.
I received a gorgeous Pink ribbon Pandora bracelet. I decided to give it to my girlfriend whose mum lost her life to breast cancer. Now I know my friend can look at it and feel like she is with her in spirit, she can reflect on memories of her mother for a lifetime.
Sali has gone into the draw to win a beautiful PANDORA gift and Urban Rituelle Pamper Pack
