What is metastatic cancer?

Metastatic cancer, also known as Stage IV (4) Cancer, sometimes referred to as advanced cancer, describes a tumour that has spread to a different part of the body than where it started. You can have metastatic disease at the time of your diagnosis (de novo metastatic disease), or a metastatic diagnosis may come years after your initial cancer.
